Stay Cyber Safe: Tips for Protecting Yourself and Your Business

Recent news has warned that we are all vulnerable to cyber-attacks, especially during high alert times. As a leading provider of contract cleaning services to high-security facilities requiring cleared personnel, Mister Kleen empowers our employees by collaborating with the facility’s security team and providing training such as the Employee Security Awareness Program (ESAP).

Our cleaning crews become additional eyes and ears in secure facilities to help identify suspicious individuals or activity and reduce security threats. Training your employees to develop a security mindset can be your best defense against online threats. Below are some common security updates that will foster a safe and secure online presence.

The first step to cybersecurity starts with strong passwords that are stored securely and changed regularly. Choose passwords with 12-15 letters and characters, vary passwords for different websites, and use two-factor identification when available.

Two-factor authentication (multi-factor authentication or two-step authentication) adds a second layer of protection to your online accounts like email and social media. Once enabled, you will be required to enter a special, one-time-use code alongside your password.

Never open an e-mail attachment from someone you don’t know and be wary of forwarded attachments from people you do know. It’s always safer to enter the URL yourself than to click on a link or attachment. Even though an email might look legitimate, there is a possibility it might be a scam called “phishing” designed to get your personal information.

Each social media app includes its own privacy tools that not only protect what information you make public on their platforms, but also limits what information the companies can collect about you. Running an audit of each app and its individual privacy settings, along with a strong password and two-factor authentication will help bolster your social media security.

As a specialist in servicing high-security facilities throughout the Washington DC Metro region, we are recognized in the intelligence community for our expertise and experience in cleaning within secure environments.
